Queensland musicians Cameron McKenzie and Richard “Skritch” Needham are
releasing a single under the moniker Skam Artist after working together
in Brisbane’s thriving music industry for many years.
Widely recognised as the catchy R&B-based soundtrack of the Sunday
Mail’s IE magazine commercial, “everybody’s talkin” features local
talent Jennifer Hampstead, aka The Missuz, on vocals.
The release is good news for the many music fans who have responded to
the commercial and sought out the song.
The single will be released in November under the Resin Dogs’
Brisbane-based label Hydrofunk.
McKenzie and Skritch, mates through the music scene for many years,
recently reunited to collaborate on Skam Artist after spending five
years working on separate music projects.
The pair established Skam Artist as a song-writing and production team.
Their first release has an R&B focus to suit Hampstead’s vocals.
McKenzie has focused on composing for film and television and has racked
up credits on shows such as Fat Cow Motel, Keeping the Faithful (both
for Brisbane production company Hoodlum Entertainment), short films and
hundreds of commercials. He most recently has been composing for Disney
US and Disney Japan.
Skritch works constantly in all aspects of music production and
performance. As a performer and composer he has released three albums
including two albums and numerous EP singles with his band Tex Perkins’
Dark Horses. For the past few years he has worked in live music, playing
in and mixing for well known Australian bands. He also plays with
Gotacola and Broken Head with Regurgitator’s Ben Ely. He does live sound
for acts including Resin Dogs and Spiderbait.
The pair is working on various projects as Skam Artist and expect an
album to follow next year. |
